What’s in it for you this end of financial year?

How giving to Hagar helps survivors to heal and helps you at tax time

As June 30 draws near, many of us start thinking about receipts, deductions and how to make the most of tax time. But the end of financial year (EOFY) can be about more than spreadsheets - it’s also a moment to pause, reflect, and choose to do something good.

A donation to Hagar before 30 June helps a survivor of modern slavery, trafficking or abuse access the support they need to heal and rebuild their life — and it can also reduce your taxable income.

At Hagar, we walk the whole journey with survivors. We know that healing doesn’t happen overnight, it requires time, patience and ongoing support. Your donation helps provide:

  • Safe housing

  • Trauma-informed counselling

  • Education and school reintegration

  • Legal support

  • Livelihoods training and job placements

Thanks to people like you, in the past year:

  • 3,205 survivors received care in residential or community settings

  • 7,003 counselling sessions were delivered

  • 1,548 survivors launched a business or found safe, dignified work

  • 1,325 children and adults accessed education support

Each number represents a real person whose life has been transformed, made possible by the generosity of people who chose to give.

We know that healing is essential to prevention. Without proper care, survivors are left vulnerable to re-exploitation, poverty and ongoing trauma. Your gift helps break that cycle, and not just for one person, but for families and communities too.

Here’s the practical side: every donation over $2 to Hagar is fully tax-deductible in Australia.

That means you can reduce your taxable income and potentially get more back in your tax return while making a real difference for people who need it most.

Here’s a simple example:
If you earn $80,000 and donate $500 before June 30, you could receive around $130 back in your tax return (depending on your marginal tax rate).

It’s a smart way to give and an even smarter way to help someone rebuild their life.

Tip: After donating, you’ll receive a tax receipt via email. Keep this for your accountant or MyGov return.

Whether it’s $50 or $5,000, your gift will be used wisely and with purpose. Because at Hagar, we believe in doing whatever it takes, for as long as it takes to see a life restored.

So… what’s in it for you this EOFY? The chance to change a life. The confidence of a tax deduction. And the knowledge that your generosity matters, deeply.
