Aly's healing took years. That's not a flaw in the model. It is the model.
When Aly came to Hagar, she trusted no one. For two months she hid in her room and cried. There was no quick fix that could reach her. What reached her was time: a team that kept showing up, month after month, year after year, until trust became possible, then skills, then work, then leadership.
Today Aly is a Hagar staff member. She mentors survivors, advises policymakers, and leads prevention work in communities like the one she came from. She is one of 76 survivor leaders in Hagar's Cambodia network.
None of that happens on a 12-month program budget. It happens because Hagar commits to each survivor for as long as it takes. Monthly givers are what make "as long as it takes" possible.
"I want to help other women and children change their lives."
Aly — Hagar staff member and survivor leader, Cambodia
What "as long as it takes" actually looks like
A one-off gift funds a moment on this road. A monthly gift walks the whole way.
What steady support makes possible
Over a year, helps provide a survivor with ongoing trauma-informed counselling sessions.
Give A$30 monthly →Over a year, helps cover safe accommodation and essentials for a woman or child rebuilding their life.
Give A$55 monthly →Over a year, helps fund vocational training that moves a survivor from recovery into independence.
Give A$85 monthly →Over a year, helps fund the mentoring and training that turns a healed survivor into a survivor leader.
Give A$100 monthly →Every monthly gift funds the full journey: safe accommodation, counselling, education, legal support, economic empowerment, and the survivor leadership network that turns healing into prevention.
This is how we win. Through survivors: healed, equipped, and leading from within.
Survivor care
Not a short-term program. A sustained, dignified commitment to walking alongside each person for as long as it takes.
Prevention
Survivor leaders return to at-risk communities with lived knowledge and credibility no outsider can offer. They spot vulnerability before it is exploited.
Justice
Survivors like Aly sit at policy tables, shaping the systems that once failed them. Hagar's Cambodia survivor leader network is formally recognised by the Cambodian government.

Aly's story started with someone who didn't give up.
Somewhere right now, a woman is where Aly was: hiding, grieving, trusting no one. Your monthly gift is how Hagar shows up for her next month, and every month after, until she's ready to lead.
