Hagar Australia is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated communications intern to help Hagar increase brand awareness. You’ll work closely with the both the Head of Communications and Fundraising and the Programs and Grants Manager, along with the wider team on a variety of creative and strategic projects, playing a hands-on role in inspiring new donors and strengthening connections with existing supporters and foundations. This role will be required for one day a week with the flexibility to spread hours over a week.
Responsibilities
Communications
Social Media Community Building: Create engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok (50%), while actively engaging with followers, responding to comments, and building an authentic online community (50%)
Quarterly Donor Newsletter: Write and design impact-focused quarterly email newsletters for regular givers, highlighting program outcomes and measurable results
Case Development: Develop compelling country/program-specific cases for support that connect donors to Hagar's work on the ground
Grants
Grant Writing: Support the development and writing of grant applications to secure funding for Hagar's programs
Grants/Funder Communications Framework: Contribute to the development of a communications framework for ongoing funder engagement and reporting
What We’re Looking For
Passion for human rights, social justice, or international development
Strong written and visual communication skills with an ability to translate complex impact data into compelling stories
Experience with social media platforms and email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp) preferred
Familiarity with community engagement strategies and metrics tracking
Creativity, initiative, and attention to detail
Currently studying or recently completed a qualification in communications, marketing, journalism, international development, or a related field
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, dedicated team
Strong research and writing skills for grant applications (experience preferred but not essential)

Role Overview
Hagar Australia is seeking a creative and motivated Social Media Intern to help grow our brand awareness and deepen engagement across our digital channels.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Communications and Fundraising, alongside the wider team, to plan, create, and publish content across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. This role plays a hands-on part in telling Hagar’s story, amplifying survivor-centred impact, and building meaningful connections with our online community.
This role is expected to be approximately one day per week, with flexibility to spread hours across the week.
Responsibilities
Social Media & Digital Engagement
Content Creation: Create engaging, platform-appropriate content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, including posts, reels, short-form video, and basic graphics
Community Engagement: Actively engage with followers by responding to comments and messages, fostering a warm, authentic, and values-aligned online community
Content Planning: Support the development and scheduling of social media content aligned with campaigns, key moments, and organisational priorities
Brand Awareness: Help grow Hagar Australia’s reach and engagement through thoughtful storytelling and consistent brand voice
Performance Tracking: Assist with monitoring engagement metrics and platform insights to understand what content resonates and where improvements can be made
What We’re Looking For
Passion for human rights, social justice, or international development
Strong written communication skills and an eye for visual storytelling
Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn
Basic understanding of social media trends, short-form video, and audience engagement
Creativity, initiative, and attention to detail
Currently studying or recently completed a qualification in communications, marketing, media, journalism, or a related field
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, dedicated team
Willingness to learn, experiment, and contribute ideas in a supportive environment

You’ll work alongside the Head of Communications and Fundraising and the wider team to help introduce new audiences to Hagar’s work and support the coordination of church and community events. This role focuses on relationship-building and practical support, helping create space for deeper conversations led by Hagar staff.
Responsibilities
Church & Community Engagement
Supporting outreach to churches and faith communities using approved resources and messaging
Helping maintain warm, respectful communication with church contacts
Passing interested churches or community groups to Hagar staff for next-step conversations
Assisting with basic tracking and follow-up to ensure no opportunities are missed
Events & Administrative Support
Assisting with the coordination and administration of church and community events
Supporting event communications, RSVPs, and preparation of basic materials
Helping with post-event follow-up and feedback collection
Occasionally supporting in-person events (optional)

Role Overview
Hagar Australia is seeking a relational and organised Schools Engagement Officer to support connection-building with secondary schools, Christian schools, and tertiary institutions across Australia.
You’ll work alongside the Head of Communications and Fundraising and the wider team to help introduce schools to Hagar’s work, coordinate engagement opportunities, and support awareness initiatives. This role plays a practical and relational function, helping ensure schools feel supported, informed, and confident in partnering with Hagar.
This role is structured as one day per week, with flexibility in how hours are distributed.
Responsibilities
School Engagement
Supporting outreach to schools using approved messaging and resources
Maintaining communication with teachers, chaplains, wellbeing teams, and student leaders
Assisting in coordinating school presentations, awareness initiatives, and fundraising activities
Supporting follow-up communication after meetings or events
Maintaining simple tracking of school contacts and engagement activity
Events & Administration
Preparing school-specific resources and materials
Supporting scheduling and event coordination
Assisting with basic event logistics and communications
Occasionally attending school presentations or events (optional)
What We’re Looking For
Alignment with Hagar’s mission and values
Warm, professional communication skills
Confidence engaging with educators and school staff
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Comfortable supporting both relational and administrative tasks
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
Experience in education, youth work, ministry, or community engagement is helpful but not essential
