How to change a life

Modern slavery is growing at an alarming rate. Latest estimates suggest more than 50 million people are trapped in forced labour or exploitation around the world. Behind each statistic is a person whose life has been shattered by violence and deprivation. To truly end modern slavery, we must break the cycle of abuse one person at a time, helping survivors heal, regain dignity and find hope for the future.

Rescue from exploitation is a vital first step. But without full healing, many survivors remain at risk of re-exploitation, stigma and poverty. Trauma can leave deep wounds that affect every area of life - mental health, relationships, work and community engagement. When we guide survivors through each stage of recovery, we help them rebuild their strength and resilience. That healing not only transforms individual lives but also weakens the structures that allow slavery to persist.

At Hagar, we are committed to restoring life and dignity, doing whatever it takes for as long as it takes. Our work focuses on four pillars of restoration:

  • Safe care and protection – providing secure housing and legal support

  • Healing and counselling – delivering trauma recovery programmes and peer groups

  • Skills development – offering education and vocational training

  • Community integration – working with families and local leaders to reduce stigma and build safe environments

Every day we walk alongside a new survivor, listening to their story, helping them find their voice and equipping them to choose a brighter path. It is this one-to-one approach that creates lasting change - because each fully healed survivor can go on to strengthen their family and community.

Gifts made before 30 June are tax deductible this financial year. That makes EOFY the perfect time to turn compassion into action. Here is how your support can change a life:

  • $30 Emergency support – shelter, food and clothing at the moment of crisis

  • $60 Medical care – vital treatment to restore health and wellbeing

  • $100 Holistic care – comprehensive programmes for healing body and mind

  • $250 Skills training – vocational courses that open doors to sustainable work

  • $500 Trauma counselling – professional therapy to help survivors rebuild confidence

Each donation helps one person move from the darkness of exploitation into a future of stability and opportunity.

A one-off gift can start a life-changing journey. But a regular gift ensures survivors know support will be there for as long as they need it. By becoming a monthly giver, you help guarantee that every survivor has access to counselling, training and community reintegration over months or even years.

You have the power to change a life today. Donate before 30 June and ensure that every survivor in our care completes the full journey from rescue to lasting restoration.

When you support Hagar, you do more than help one person, you nourish families, strengthen communities and bring us all closer to a world without slavery. Thank you for joining us in this vital work, one life at a time.
