The Sound of Freedom movie is a 2023 released film based on a true story. It’s a powerful call to action to confront the harsh realities of human trafficking. As the credits roll, we have the opportunity to channel our shock, horror and sadness about the reality of child exploitation, and take tangible steps to make a difference in the world.

On October 20, 2023, the Hagar team distributed 600 high-quality blankets and 1800 pieces of clothing, thoughtfully crafted by RLL clients. This generous contribution has reached 300 families in the earthquake-affected Zinda Jan district of Herat province. The impact of this distribution extended beyond immediate relief; it conveyed a message of hope, resilience, and solidarity.

Psychological violence involves the use of abusive, deceptive, threatening, offensive, embarrassing, and obscene language. This form of violence affects individuals from diverse backgrounds, regardless of wealth, education, or income. Domestic violence can have multiple contributing factors, such as traditional beliefs, alcohol consumption, low levels of education, and unemployment, all of which can lead to socio-economic hardship.

Modern slavery, often used interchangeably with human trafficking, encompasses a range of exploitative practices that deprive individuals of their freedom and dignity. It is a multifaceted issue, manifesting in various forms such as forced labor, sexual exploitation, child labor, forced marriage, and more.

The recently released 2023 Global Slavery Index sheds light on the worsening global slavery crisis, revealing alarming statistics and highlighting the need for immediate action. This blog post explores the key findings from the report, including the growing prevalence of modern slavery, the role of G20 nations, the impact of climate change, and the urgent actions required to combat this grave violation of human rights.

One of Hagar's strategic goals is to reduce the vulnerability of human trafficking and abuse among migrant workers and communities through local duty bearers and community engagement.

Hagar Australia has appointed Paul Flavel to the role of Executive Director.

21 April 2022 – Convicted of labour trafficking, Alagar Balasubramanian has been sentenced to 3 years and 5 months in prison, and fined $27,365 over three charges under the Prevention of Human Trafficking Act 2014. The Singapore Courts have also ordered him to pay $2,722 in compensation.

Longdy Chhap, former human trafficking survivor, turned Hagar Cambodia Counsellor advocates for freedom at the United Nations General Assembly.

To raise awareness about child sexual abuse and knowledge/skills about what to do in response, the Hagar Vietnam team coordinated with the Women’s Union and Minh – Luong Secondary School in the Nghe An Province to run a contest with local secondary school students from mid-November to early December.
